Meet the Leader
Jason Coleman is a graduate of Whitney M. Young High School and the University of Southern California. He received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2001. After graduation, Jason worked in the aerospace industry for BAE SYSTEMS where he designed and developed flight control systems for military and commercial aircrafts. From 2004-2008, he was employed with Motorola where he developed the mechanical layouts for the latest cellular phones.
In 2008, Jason co-founded Project SYNCERE where he currently serves as the Executive Director. He also sits on the Advisory Board for the Chicago Children’s Museum and serves on the Committee for Educator Capacity Building in PreK-12 Engineering Education with the National Academy of Engineering.
About the Organization
Project SYNCERE was founded in 2008 by a group of Black men who, having experienced the transformative power of education and technology firsthand, sought to address the underrepresentation of diverse individuals in STEM fields. Inspired by their own journeys, they left their corporate careers to create a platform that would provide opportunities for thousands of students from traditionally marginalized communities.
PS’s innovative project-based learning curriculum offers year-round STEM engagement, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills. Through these programs, we have successfully increased the number of underrepresented students pursuing STEM careers. By partnering with school districts, universities, and community organizations, we are working to reshape the landscape of engineering and create a more inclusive and equitable future.

Meet All the Awardees
Each leader is transforming education across the United States. They're building new learning models, developing talent pipelines for the classroom and beyond, and creating pathways to economic power for Black students and communities.
